Being a PhD student at DTU Physics
At DTU Physics we do our best to nurture a stimulating and pleasant environment where our PhD students can thrive.
Below, some of the initiatives launched by the PhD school are listed:
Introductory course
All our PhD students participate in an introductory “boot camp” course together with other new PhD students. The purpose of the course is to provide the students with knowledge about the department and life as a PhD student, and to give them presentation training. Another important aspect of the course is to form the basis for a solid and fruitful network among PhD students.
Mentor arrangements
At DTU Physics’ PhD school each PhD student is paired up with a mentor (a member of the scientific staff).
The mentor is responsible for conducting three interviews with the student during the study. The purpose of the mentor-interviews is to ensure successful PhD studies for the individual student. The focus is on the progress of the studies and the students' general situation and well-being.
As a PhD student you are welcome to contact your mentor for discussion and advice, also on other occasions than at the regular mentor-interviews.
PhD coaching
As a PhD student at DTU Physics, you have the possibility of enrolling in coaching, by a PhD coach at the department, addressing areas that you find difficult. Many different topics can be relevant, e.g. planning and efficiency, well-being, and your relation to your supervisor and your colleagues etc.
Social committee
The Social Committee is a small group of PhD students who organize social events at DTU Physics where everybody is welcome. E.g. the committee has arranged pub quizzes, and a summer party.
Also, in the research sections different kinds of social gatherings such as a weekly cake day, board game nights, table tennis tournaments etc. are initiated.
