Spectro Inlets ApS has commercialized an analysis system that uses a microchip inlet to make direct measurements in liquid environments using a mass spectrometer. The system is used for electrochemistry and battery R&D as well as industrial applications such as biogas production. We are solving the main technological challenge of the mass spectrometer industry: the coupling between the vacuum in which a quadrupole mass spectrometer operates, and a liquid environment in which the chemistry occurs.
Our patented microchip inlet technology uses micro-features that allows sensitive, non-discriminating and ultrafast measurements of dissolved gases in liquid environments. A microperforated membrane directly interfaces to the liquid environments, and a micro-capillary induces a pressure drop to vacuum to the mass spectrometer. An unprecedented direct coupling is thus achieved for MS measurements. New insights in battery material development can thereby be made, as well as on-line monitoring in liquids of industrial processes to increase efficiency.
