On Tuesday, October 8th, we will continue with the MAGNET Section seminars. The seminars are held every 2nd Tuesday, at 9:15.

Abstract
Simulating interacting magnetic nanoparticles with thermal noise

Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are under intense study for energy- and biomedical applications. To this end it is important to understand the nanoscale dynamics of interacting MNPs, much of which happens on ns and μs timescales and so is difficult to probe experimentally. For the Magnet seminar, I will summarise approaches to numerically simulate MNP systems in liquid- or solid suspension, i.e. Langevin dynamics, micromagnetism, Monte-Carlo methods and hybrid approaches. Then I will present the features of the model/code I developed for my own PhD, including how to compute :
• collisions and self-assembly in liquid,
• energy transfer from applied field to particles to environment,
• thermal fluctuations and noise integration,
• and exchange coupling within rigid clusters of MNPs.
Every case will include example simulations with animations.
