DTU has appointed Professor Martin Meedom Nielsen, currently Deputy Head of DTU Physics, as Head of Department.
He has the academic calibre and experience required to continue the development of a large and important department which, amongst other things, contributes to the green transition through research and innovation in energy technologies such as power-to-X and fusion, says DTU’s President, Anders Bjarklev:
“Martin Meedom Nielsen is an experienced researcher who, over a number of years, has demonstrated ambitious and competent scientific leadership. He knows DTU Physics in depth and is passionate about making a difference both for the department and for DTU as a whole,” he says.
Martin Meedom Nielsen has held a number of senior positions in Denmark and Europe. These include serving as director of the national research centre Centre for Molecular Movies and as Chair of Council of the pan-European research infrastructure European XFEL.
As Head of DTU Physics, Martin Meedom Nielsen says he will build on the solid foundation on which the department stands:
“DTU Physics is in a very strong position. We have a broad base and a unique infrastructure that enables us to develop advanced energy materials and contribute to critical technologies in areas such as quantum physics and nuclear science. These are areas of strength that we must continue to develop,” he says.
At the same time, education is very important to the new Head of Department:
“At DTU Physics, we share a common understanding of what it means to educate a skilled physics engineer. This both shapes our identity and is crucial to our collective endeavour to educate Europe’s most competent engineers in our field,” says Martin Meedom Nielsen.
